Chilling with Cinderella at Denton Vinyl

Some nights, the turntable sets the mood before you even drop the needle. Tonight at Denton Vinyl, the glow of the lamp, a splash of amber in the glass, and the familiar hum of the stylus mean only one thing: it’s time to spin Cinderella’s Long Cold Winter.

Released in 1988, this record was a turning point for the band. Coming hot off their glam-heavy debut Night Songs, Cinderella could’ve doubled down on the hair spray and neon. Instead, they steered into a rawer, blues-driven sound. The result? An album that aged better than most of its MTV-era peers.

From the gritty swagger of “Gypsy Road” to the aching balladry of “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)”, this LP still hits with equal parts grit and heart. It’s that rare album where you can crank it loud and feel the energy, or let it simmer in the background while the room fills with its smoky atmosphere.

Here at the Hut, I keep the vibe simple:

  • Lights dimmed down to a moody blue glow
  • Scotch glass within reach (always neat, never rushed)
  • Speakers warmed up and ready to fill the corners of the room
  • A stack of records waiting, but no rush to flip past Side A

Cinderella may have worn the glam image, but Long Cold Winter proves they were more than teased hair and leather jackets. It’s blues rock in makeup and eyeliner — and it sounds just as good now as it did when MTV ruled the night.

So here’s to nights like this: when the world slows down, the stylus drops, and all that matters is the next song rolling out of the grooves.

Welcome to Denton Vinyl. Grab a seat, pour a drink, and stay awhile.
